Investigation - Digital Law

How does your topic impact your future digital footprint?
Digital law can affect your digital footprint because if you get put in jail for illegal downloading it'll go on your public record which anyone can look up, like an employer or friend.

Online people can :

  • Have their identity stolen (when you buy things online with your information, this can happen)( spoofed/ ip spoofing This usually happened when an ad tries to get you're information by tricking you)
  • Download illegal things (Downloading free music is usually illegal)
  • Get hacked (This happens when a hacker gets into your computer and messes with your information)
Illegal Downloading:
  • -In the decade since peer-to-peer (p2p) file-sharing site Napster emerged in 1999, music sales in the U.S. have dropped 47 percent, from $14.6 billion to $7.7 billion.
  •     -From 2004 through 2009 alone, approximately 30 billion songs were illegally downloaded on file-sharing networks.
  •     -NPD reports that only 37 percent of music acquired by U.S. consumers in 2009 was paid for.
  •     -Frontier Economics recently estimated that U.S. Internet users annually consume between $7 and $20 billion worth of digitally pirated recorded music.
  •     -According to the Information Technology & Innovation Foundation, the digital theft of music, movies and copyrighted content takes up huge amounts of Internet bandwidth –  24 percent globally, and 17.5 percent in the U.S.
  •     -Digital storage locker downloads constitute 7 percent of all Internet traffic, while 91 percent of the links found on them were for copyrighted material, and 10 percent of those links were to music specifically, according to a 2011 Envisional study.

    Identity Theft:

    • Identity theft is on the rise, affecting almost 10 million victims in 2008 (a 22% increase from 2007)
    • Victims are spending less money out of pocket to correct the damage from ID theft. The mean cost per victim is $500, and most victims pay nothing due to zero-liability fraud protection programs offered by their financial institutions.
    • 71% of fraud happens within a week of stealing a victim’s personal data.

    Hacking:
    • A recent PBS special revealed that the Pentagon receives over six million hacking and security threats a day
    • Not surprisingly, computer hacking can be incredibly lucrative. In fact, the monetary damage reported to the IC3 for the most recent year was a staggering $559.7 million dollars. If you divide that amount by the number of complaints (336,655), the average computer hacking incident ends up costing its victim over $1,600.

    Self Evaluation

My rating of myself on a scale of 1-6:

    Investigation-paragraph

My investigation rating would be a 6 because when I was searching for sites to make my project with I found three really great ones. These three choices were then evaluated by me. I used plenty of pictures to show what I was talking about and went over everything each had to offer.

    Design-paragraph

My design gets a 5 because it wasn't that great. It was okay but I could have gone over everything in much more detail.

    Plan-paragraph

My plan was good but I didn't follow it much. I think it gets a 4.

    Create-paragraph

My creation stage gets a 5 because I made everything really great. The only bad parts was that I forgot to get more screen shots for documentation.

    Evaluate-paragraph

My evaluation gets a 5 because it is honest but not in a paragraph.

    Attitudes-paragraph

I think my attitude deserves a 5 because I'm helpful but I get off task sometimes.

Create - Reflection On My Creation

    CREATE- Reflecting on my creation

    19.  Did I follow my Plan ?
Kinda. I was a little behind because I didn't have internet connection the entire time.

    20.  How could I have improved on my creation?
I could have made just a game. Instead of an entire website.

    21.  What will I do next time that I did not do this time?
Do as much as I can at school.

    Progress Number 2: Paragraph

I made a website to help with geometry. It has a notebook with all the notes explained in a manner that most will understand and will soon have a section for games and quizzes. I plan to get at least one game and one small quiz in by Thursday. Hopefully the website will be a success.

    Design Brief

    Design Brief
    10. Write a short statement of what you are going to make, why you are going to make it, and for whom you are making it.
I'm going to create a website that will have games and studying tools for the 9th grade Geometry class. This will help them study for tests, quizzes ,understand class ,ect.
    Formulate a Design Specification
    11. What are the requirements for this assignment?
For what I'm going to create I will need to make my website understandable and easy to go through.
    12. What are the limitations you have with this assignment?
My limitations for this project are that a website can't teach like a teacher can.
    13. How will you "test" your project?
The would be how many hits my website has and a test over the vocabulary and material.

    Investigation Reflection

I give myself a 5 for my rating.
This because I don't think I desever all the points. My work was good but not too good. My explanation of the problem was understandable but needs more explaining. Also I need to work on my detail-ness.
Kinda. My whole investigation was awesome with lots of pictures and explanations.

    Investigation Comparison: WIX vs. PurposeGames

Wix is a free website creator that is very easy to use and personalize. It is fun and very simple. There are many customization options from adding widgets to pictures to other gadgets ,titles and more. The overall score that I give Wix is a 22.

LAYOUT: The layout of the creator is very easy to navigate through. One is set on the left side and doesn't get in your way ,the other is small and on top. Both expand when you scroll over them. Everything is labeled clearly and is easy to place ,delete and edit colors ,fonts and backgrounds. Score: 6

PERSONALIZATION: Wix has many personalization options.  You can add music diffrent backgrounds ,documents ,gadgets, pictures ,videos and much more. When you choose something you can choose exactly where on the page you want it and even customize some of the effects ,behaviors (like you want to make it jump on the page) ,and for text you can change colors ,size ,font and effects. Score: 6

EXTRAS: As you can see ,Wix has options for music ,gadgets ,and much more. You can upload music ,pictures ,documents. All of the extras you can add can also be customized to go with your page. They are very easy to use. Score: 5

SIMPLICITY: Overall, Wix is a very easy to use and everything is well placed. Nothing gets in your way while your busy making the pages perfect and everything is easy to find and import. Score: 5

    ________________________________________________________________________________________

Purpose Games is a website created for teachers and educational people. The over all score I give Purpose Games is a 12.
LAYOUT: The layout for the quiz creator is very simple. It tells you where everything goes and is very easy to use. Score: 6

PERSONALIZATION: The personalization is limited to only the naming and background colors. They only have four choices for themes ;Standard ,Summer, Golden and Rupert. Other than that you can't really personalize it much. Score: 3

EXTRAS: There are no extras to add to the quiz creator. Score: 0

SIMPLICITY: The game creator is very easy to use because the game template is labeled and all you have to do is fill in the blanks. Everything is neat and orderly placed. It even comes with instructions and information underneath the game creator. Score: 6

    Day Two: Investigation Refection

I found out that a good way to study is by games. First I'm trying to find a good game maker online and if that search doesn't produce any good ways ,then I'll go to my backup plan and make an interactive studying website with  Wix .
With the Wix website creator (which is incredibly easy to use) I can make an interactive website with which people can study. I'll add games and other useful sites,a page for the definitions and another page for tutorials on how to do certain equations ect.
After a bit of looking around the internet I found the site PurposeGames.

With a tool they offer I will make a quiz for Geometry to study with. With this program I can make a multiple choice game.

Another chioce I also want to try is GameMaker Lite 8.0 from Softonic. I've read that it is a very good game maker and easy to use. I've yet to try it.

I've decided to try and take on a large project. I will make the website and incorporate a few study guides ,tutorials ,and games to help with studying. I only hope I can finish it in time.
But then again, I know I will and can. :D
